The following is just a list of possibly-useful, non-obvious (to me)
things about using the N810.
- If the screen sometimes gets dim when you are actively using
the tablet, it may be because you are covering the ambient light
sensor (just above the camera) with a finger.
- When filling out password fields, watch out that the N810 doesn't
(incorrectly) auto-capitalize the first letter then hide it under a *
so you don't realize it's wrong.
- If you want to get rid of the shift state indicator (the bar
at the bottom of the screen that shows Abc/ABC/abc/Fn/123 on
the right), type shift+space. (You have to press both keys
simultaneously, not one after the other.)
- In the web browser, you might want to go to Tools->Settings
and make a couple tweaks. I set Enable pop-up windows
to Only requested on the General tab, and
unchecked Enable password saving on the Security &
Privacy tab.
- In the X Terminal application, the escape key is the hardware button
beyond the left edge of the display, on the bottom -- the one with the
curved arrow on it:
- Holding down the escape key (see previous hint) will close the current
application or dialogue.
- Holding down the swap (aka home) key, just above the escape key, will
switch the tablet to the home (desktop) view. The key looks like this:
- The zoom in/out rocker (hardware switch on the top edge of the unit)
works in the terminal application. If you need more columns, just zoom out.
- The N810 has the same footprint as the Nintendo DS Lite (but the N810
is slightly thinner). This means you can use DS carrying cases.
- When you insert a MiniSD card, it should click into place. It's hard
to push it in far enough. If the MiniSD slot cover keeps pushing out when
you open the stand, you haven't got the MiniSD all the way in.
- The default lock code is 12345. It says this in the manual -- the manual
that's on the device that you can't unlock.
- The Apple Wireless Keyboard works great with the N810. If text entry
seems laggy, close the shift status bar and/or turn off text completion.
- You should probably plan on re-flashing your N810 after spending
the first couple of days making a mess of it, at least if you're anything
like me.
